Llanfyllin Squash Players, who play in the Shropshire leagues and are affiliated to England Squash & Racketball, held our first junior open day on Saturday 12th November. The purpose of the day was to encourage more children to join our junior coaching programme. The event was free of charge, and children were able to turn up, try squash and have fun at the same time. Turn out was excellent with 16 children aged 7 to 14 years attending to enjoy the day. Squash Wales and Powys Council Sports Development supported the event by arranging for a professional squash coach, Gareth Hughes-Jones, to lead the day. Our thanks go to Gareth who did a brilliant job. He was supported by our own coaches and some of our experienced juniors. The open day was held in the Llanfyllin Sports Centre where the centre manager Glenn Nixon and his staff went out of their way to help and make everyone feel welcome. Free refreshments were available courtesy of the local Spar and some home baking. This was a day where everyone was a winner, and all the children have signed up for the coaching programme.
